Early Works

Jesse Symons art practice has traversed multiple mediums for over two decades: performance, sound, photography, sculpture, video, painting and drawings.

Hair Do at a distance

Hair do at a distance is both a photographic diptych and a short duration video, the series explores the relationship between public and private performance as the artist re-enacts and imitate drag king performance.

August Footy Series

August footy series were video installation works. The short duration clips show a slowed down 3 minute clip of the artist performing silent gestures and movements.  The works were made in response to comical stereotypical male football conversations.

Hypnosis & Recollection

Hypnosis and recollection was a 2014 series of oil paintings, exploring submodalities and modern hypnosis. Reflecting on the images we hold in our minds to describe our experiences, the works at once describes a memory and a feeling.

PORTRAITS

Portrait Commission Artworks

Jesse is currently accepting Portrait Commission enquiries, use the contact link to explore the possibilities.  Typically an accepted commission involves at least 2 sittings, some discussions about yourself or sitter, and shooting some new reference photographs.

QUEER SALON

Queer salon explores TGD butch, a representation rarely seen. The images are hard to find and are predominantly circulated through photography and the documentary genre. The act of transferring TGD butch images to portraiture is vital; it addresses an absence of this imagery and subject in modern and contemporary art.

Capturing different embodiments of masculinity, Queer Salon suggests an empowered state of being, driven by a desire to bring congruence between bodies and minds; to seek authenticity.
